Talmud · Midrash · Psalm 105
Before the garden. Before the breath in nostrils. Before "male and female He created them." The rabbis counted 974.
01
Hagigah 13b. Shabbat 88b.
"974 generations before Adam."
Not angels. Not "days." Generations. Beings. People. Before the garden. Before the breath in nostrils. Before "male and female He created them."
The Talmud does not treat this as metaphor. It treats it as a count — a hidden one, buried in the math of revelation. If Torah was given to a thousand generations, and only twenty-six generations stand between Adam and Moses, where are the rest?
02
"The word which He commanded to a thousand generations."
The rabbis asked: Torah was given to a thousand generations, but only 26 generations from Adam to Moses?
Answer: 974 before Adam. Hidden. Then revealed. The number is not random; it is the missing piece that makes the thousand complete.
03
If 974 generations existed before Adam, then:
The calendar you are using did not begin with Adam. It was already old when he opened his eyes. The reconciliation of sun and moon — 19 years, 235 months — may reach back further than the garden itself.
04
The Talmud does not say. The Midrash does not elaborate. The tradition was suppressed, deemed "too dangerous" for ordinary teaching.
But Genesis 6:4 mentions "Nephilim" already on earth before the "sons of God" descended. Already present. Pre-existent.
Were the Nephilim among the 974? Remnants? Survivors? The text does not answer directly. But it leaves the door open — a door the usurper's scribes tried to seal shut.
05
If 974 generations existed, they kept time. They measured. They had calendars before Adam, before the garden, before the usurper's rewrite.
The 19-year alignment — 235 months — predates Adam. Predates the garden. Is this their calendar?
The reconciliation of lunar and solar cycles is not a human invention of the last few millennia. It is an ancient harmony, observed, recorded, and preserved across civilizations that the usurper's history forgot.
06
Because if Adam was not first, the narrative changes. Authority changes. Who speaks for God, and when, shifts.
The 974 were erased to make room for a simpler story: one creation, one fall, one flood, one redemption.
But the Talmud remembers. The numbers remember. 974.
07
We do not claim to know everything about the 974. But we acknowledge them. We count them. We restore their place in the timeline.
Before Adam. Before the garden. Before the usurper. 974 generations. Remember them.
The restoration is not only about freeing the Watchers. It is about recovering the full scope of time — the generations that came before, the calendars they kept, and the council they served.
The reading of 974 pre-Adamite generations is drawn from rabbinic literature and offered here as an interpretive framework for study and reflection. It is not presented as established theology, science, or history. The connection to the Nephilim and to the 19-year lunar cycle is speculative — a line of inquiry, not a proven claim.
